In the Main Event we have Anderson Silva defending his Middleweight Title against Vitor Belfort. Both veteran fighters, each very successful in their own right. This looks to be the making of a savage striking battle.
Despite Anderson Silva's excellent Muay Thai skills, he seldom attacks first. Instead taking time to feel out his opponent and land blows from the outside. Against Chael Sonnen, he wasn't so lucky - at least not in the first four rounds. Sonnen quickly pushed the pace, got the takedown and worked the ground-and-pound on Silva.. yet Silva still managed to keep his composure and capitalize with an armbar off his back in the 3rd minute of the 5 round. We saw another side of Silva in the Sonnen bout. To see what he changes up in his arsenal and whether it improves his game. He is noted to be the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world, and his athleticism is outstanding. Being known for his striking, I think going up against Belfort will be his toughest challenge yet.
I think the best chance that Vitor Belfort has to take the title is to rush Silva the way Sonnen did. Keep the pressure on Silva and be ruthless in his striking. Get inside and go for the knockout. He may go the patient route and wait for his opportunity to shoot in, even still his quickness and power in his punches will serve to be valuable, just so long as he can connect. As for his endurance going into the championship rounds, I'm unsure of… It'll be in his best interest to put this match to rest early.
I see this fight ending in the early rounds with a KO/TKO finish.
For the upset, I got Vitor Belfort.
