WEC 53: HENDERSON vs PETTIS

Dec 16, 2010 brings to a close the WEC chapter.  WEC will be merging with UFC in the New Year.  The anticipation for this is high, and so is the expectations of the final WEC.

WEC 53, will determine the #1 lightweight contender that will go up against UFC lightweight champion (to be determined on Jan. 1, 2011 @ UFC 125).  The winners of these two events will go up against one another to unify the belt and to once and for all announce the Lightweight Champion.

Benson "Smooth" Henderson will be defending his lightweight title against Anthony "Showtime" Pettis in a 5 round title matchup.  Henderson is coming into this bout with a record of 12-1, all 5 fights in WEC victorious.  Pettis, also an upcoming star, comes in with a record of 11-1.  His one loss being an arguably close split decision.  With both fighters having such impressive records, it's hard to pinpoint which fighter will have the upperhand.

This fight has the potential of being an exciting, explosive match.  Kickboxing will definitely come to play as will both men's talents in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.  I don't expect this fight to go all 5 rounds. Instead, I'm looking to see either one finish with a KO or submission.  One thing is for sure, Henderson and Pettis will fight their hearts out.  Giving us a great show and ultimately ending the WEC promotion with a bang
