UFC 141 - preview into where the promotions athletes are heading.

What a great way to end UFC's 2011 year.  Full of great moments, no doubt.  UFC 141 gave fans including me a boost of excitement for next year's upcoming 35 planned events.

We saw Johny Hendricks tag Jon Fitch with a quick left hook. Resulting in a KO victory with just 12 seconds into the first round.  Awarding him Knockout Of The Night Bonus.

The Cowboy Cerrone got schooled by the Stockton Kid - Nate Diaz all three rounds. Cerrone managed to place some kicks but unfortunately not damaging enough.  At times he was able to get Diaz off balance and on his back but chose to back off and stand up with Diaz.  Looks like Cerrone has no confidence in his ground game against the BJJ fighter. Nate Diaz since changing weight class has impressed with his boxing and striking accuracy. He still throws in his antics now and then but for the most part he has improved.  They both received Fight Of The Night Bonus.

Lastly the heavyweights made their way to the octagon.  Allistair Overeem who has risen to celebrity status since the merging of the promotions. Brock Lesnar has had a tough road working through his medical dilemmas, recovery from surgery and actually preparing for the fight.  At first it didn't look like Lesnar stood much of a chance against the dutch kick boxer, ultimately that was fact.  Overeem managed to kick and knee his way to victory.  At the end, only one thing was left to be said.

“I’m going to officially say tonight is the last time you’ll see me in the Octagon,” Lesnar said. “Brock Lesnar is officially retired.”

Junior Dos Santos will defend his Heavyweight Championship Belt against Allistair Overeem sometime in 2012.

#UFC139 - Great night! Great Fights!

Tonight's fights were amazing!  Very impressed with each fight on the main card.  But of course, I'm most impressed with Dan Henderson!!

After burning out by the 4th, I'm so thankful Henderson was able to defend himself to the end.  Shogun Rua got a burst in the 4th/5th but was unable to finish off Henderson.  Which was great for my bets tonight.  I was seriously just on my feet, clenching my fists trying to make the time hurry by... felt like the longest match ever.  I guess after the 1st round knockout of the Dos Santos/Valasquez #UFConFOX fight, tonight's 5-round NON-Championship fight was damn right refreshing.
Forget about the main-event, what about Wanderlei Silva's win tonight?  Completely in awe that Wand could look so good once again.  He ate some heavy shots but was able to get comfortable and get the TKO!  Against Cung Le - who him self put on a great show for the UFC fans.  The ease and creativity of his kicks blew me away, if only he connected and KO'd Wand with the Axe kick -- would've been wicked to witness that.  Instead I think we all just witnessed a rejuvenated Wanderlei Silva.  Let's see where this takes us...

Dana White defends #UFConFox, tells critics to "Shut up."

Regarding Steve Cofield's Yahoo! article "UFC on Fox postfight: White tells critics to 'shut up' " , seems as though Dana White had one helluva night.

Dana White was quoted in the article saying:
"For anyone to [expletive] about this fight because they didn't get to see [this fight or] that fight ... shut up!  You should've bought tickets if you wanted to see all the fights," White said. "And you don't like to watch them on Facebook? Seriously, shut up."
"Every weirdo comes from everywhere, [talking] about how bad fighting is and joining the 'Coalition of I Have Nothing Better To Do With My Life.''" said White. "These are the stories we have to tell to mainstream America. Because most of us in this room live in this bubble called MMA. It's a world of triangle chokes and arm bars, all the [expletive] people have never heard of. They don't understand it. They don't know what it is. We have to ease people into this, so that's what we did tonight."
"We have to educate people. We had to show features about these two guys tonight. They're two great athletes. They're two great human beings," White said. "We explained what this sport is and who these people are who are involved in it. They're not what you think they are."
I cannot believe there are so-called UFC fans that were upset about Junior Dos Santos' 1st round knockout win?!  Seriously?  I could understand those that are mad because they lost money on Valesquez, but that's the foundation of gambling for you.  You win some, you lose some.

Valesquez was a slight favorite since the line has been out, up to minutes before the start of the match.  Many people looked at him of being a big guy, who would be able to take Dos Santos down to the ground.  He would've likely done better had he put Dos Santos on his back and served him some Valesquez Ground and Pound. Unfortunately, HE DID NOT DO THAT!  (and even if Cain did get the takedown and was able to punish Junior with a beat down - then again, ref stoppage.. and again not a full 5 round championship fight)

People are so desperate to see a 5round fight on network TV! It COULD'VE happened, this time it didn't.  Maybe next time there's a UFConFOX show, it will.  People are upset because the 'free' championship fight ended in the first round?  How can you be upset when you see a freaking HEAVYWEIGHT just get knocked the fu out?!  You want FREE fights?  Watch the prelims on facebook, on spike, ... heck stream the damn event.

Enough.

It's a sport. Where two competing sides go at it and one comes out victorious (unless of course in a case of a draw - damn judges!).  We can try to predict, we can try to analyze and we can be absolutely sure who we want to win... but you can always count on unpredictability to mess with us.

#UFConFOX - Junior Dos Santos now heavyweight champion!

Turned out to be a good night after all.  I recovered from my parlay thanks to Junior Dos Santos!  What a great performance! During the pre-fight show Brock Lesnar repeated how he would like to see Valasquez  victorious so he could avenge his loss...  then again Lesnar would only fight tonights' winner if he himself defeats Alistair Overeem in December.

So now we wait...  will it be Dos Santos vs. Lesnar?  Or will it be Dos Santos vs. Overeem?  I'm not sure which one I'd prefer to watch.  I do know that the Lesnar vs. Overeem fight is going to be entertaining (at least to me) - It's like watching Bulldozer vs. Bulldozer. LMAO!  Hope you all enjoyed tonights fights!

Parlay for UFC 137 - Nick Diaz vs BJ Penn & Dennis Siver vs Donald Cerrone

So after a horrible week I was unable to make a video blog for this UFC 137.  Sorry sorry, but here is my parlay ticket.

I took Nick Diaz mainly because Diaz's style is far more aggressive than that of Penn's.  I would think that the only way for BJ Penn to win (if he can pull it off)  would be to try to get the fight to the ground.   With both being talented BJJ fighters , I would like Penn to take Diaz's back and pull off a choke.  Diaz, who's never been submitted before - has normally finished his fights in the first or second round.  That being said - it makes it hard for me to believe that Penn will come out victorious.

Nick Diaz - KO/TKO

I took  Dennis Siver mainly because since my bet was a parlay the only other underdog I liked was him.  Although Donald Cerrone is far from boring and is coming into this bout with a 5-win streak (which cancels out Siver's 4-win streak ; in my opinion) being that he's coming from Greg Jackson's camp, it's almost a certainty that his gameplan is solid.  Siver will really look to be on the offensive here as to prevent Cerrone from picking him apart from outside.  Siver needs to have his takedown defence on high alert and prevent any kind of submission attempts.
