CHAEL SONNEN Pleads Guilty..

This evening I came across an article on Chael Sonnen at Yahoo! Sports online.  Chael Sonnen plead guilty to money laundering related to mortgage fraud.  He'll be sentenced on March 28, 2011. You can read the press release on the case at United States Attorney's Office: District of Oregon Press Room.
The money laundering charge carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a $500,000 fine!  Sonnen is also on a 6 month suspension after testing positive for steriods...  I did not see this coming. I hope Sonnen has a good lawyer. If he gets sentenced to prison, who knows how long he'll be locked up?

BUT at least we get to see him fight before all that drama unfolds...  Sonnen is set to fight on the UFC 128 card against Yoshihiro Akiyama.  UFC 128 will take place March 19, 2011 (only 10 days before his sentencing!) in Newark, NJ.

So apparently Sonnen made a plea deal.  He's going to give up his Realtor's license, be on probation for 2 years, and pay a $10,000 fine.

UPDATE:  Chael Sonnen's contract to fight for the UFC has been put on hold.  His bout with Akiyama will not take place.  Dana White has this to say:
"Chael Sonnen has gone through a lot in the last few months and we think it's important for him to focus on getting his personal life together before focusing on his career in the UFC." White adds, "I spoke with Chael earlier today and he agrees that setting priorities in his life is the best thing for him right now. I sincerely hope Chael is able to straighten out his personal life."
