VELASQUEZ challenges DOS SANTOS' heavyweight belt at UFC155

UFC 155: DOS SANTOS vs VELASQUEZ 2

SATURDAY, DEC 29, 2012. at MGM GRAND GARDEN ARENA

"Trilogy in the making?"

I've asked myself this countless times this past week as I try to decide exactly which of these two heavyweights are going to come out on top.  And by 'on top' , I do mean standing over their opponent by the end of the fight.  As I do with most heavyweights, I expect that either Junior Dos Santos or Cain Velasquez will have enough power in their punch to secure a Knock OUT! But i guess in order for it to be a trilogy, Cain Velasquez must win this fight..

"Cain Velasquez to break Junior Dos Santos' 10 win streak?"

As you might remember from their first encounter, Dos Santos (JDS) secured a 1st round knockout that stunned the newly minted UFConFOX audience.  And for some strange reason, there were some newbie viewers that were unhappy with this quick knockout. Not me! Enjoyed every second of that fight! - plus it was free! How can anyone not be impressed by the KO?!

Their first encounter might have been quick but showed the world the speed and accuracy of the JDS' boxing.  Smashing Velasquez with powerful overhand right and then finishing him off for the KO win. Can Cain avoid JDS' heavy hands this time?

It's not like Cain Velasquez doesn't have what it takes to become champ once again.  His record 10-1 is incredibly stacked with 9 TKO/KO's and his only loss coming from JDS.   Has he learned from his last match?  Will he try tirelessly this time to get Dos Santos to the ground?

"Don't blink, this one's gonna be a quickie."

In my opinion, Dos Santos is a heavyweight that carries himself in the octagon like a middleweight.  His clean cut physique combined with his quick footwork and flawless hands makes for an interesting scene when paired with Cain Velasquez.  Velasquez didn't fair well last time standing it up with Dos Santos, so it would be assumed that this time around he'll have to become a bulldozer and take JDS down - and keep him there.

As much as I would love to see JDS take another KO win, it would be my pleasure to see this rivalry turn into a trilogy.  So for now, I would like to think that Cain is one helluva beast coming into this UFC 155 title fight.

I like for Cain to maybe try to control the pace and not let Dos Santos gain any momentum.  If Cain Velasquez can do this plus take Dos Santos to the cavas, then its quite possible we might be getting a new UFC Heavyweight Champ tonight.  But if he can't find a way to avoid JDS' hands, he might get picked apart and thrown to the chicken coop.  Whomp, whomp...

Here's hoping for a trilogy!  Cheers! Enjoy the fights!
