MAIN EVENT:
Evan DUNHAM vs Melvin GUILLARD
At first announcement I was quite excited to see the Fight for the Troops event. When the main bout was K-FLO taking on DUNHAM. Unfortunately for me, Florian is out with an injury… BOO!! Guillard stepping in for Florian, I guess will have to do. Here's my thoughts on this match up...
Guillard - who has great knockout power - will most likely want to keep this match standing. Kickboxing, I'd say would have to be his strength. He has a powerful right - if he connects - but slower punches, winding up and really trying for a KO. He's been working on his take down defence, which has improved. His submission defence is weak, and has been dealt some losses when put in that situation. If taken to the ground, its likely that he will be submitted by Dunham.
Dunham - a well-rounded lightweight - might look to take down Guillard early in the match. He has a very confident ground game - blackbelt BJJ - and to his credit, many submission wins. If he's unable to take down Guillard, his stand-up is exceptional (as seen against Sean Sherk). He'll be able to quickly counter Guillard and deliver fast combinations. He throws out kicks as naturally as he does his fists. If kept standing, just so long as he doesn't get caught with the KO power Guillard gives - Dunham will be able to keep the pace .. the fight will go to the Judges.
I see this bout going in favour of DUNHAM.
